I checked my tumblr ask this morning to find out that some people were telling me I had been too harsh about Martin’s kids pictures, and that we as a fandom could be more polite to each other and that I shouldn’t be policing like I did with my post.
This thing has been going on for MONTHS. I did “polite”, I did “calm”, I did “reserved”, and then I stopped being nice because this is not on, and will never be. I don’t give a fuck if some of those fans are new to the fandom and “didn’t know about it”, I’m concerned about the fact that either new or not, fans think it’s ACCEPTABLE AND OK TO REBLOG IT NONETHELESS. How about common sense?
Let me be clear about this once more:
Martin Freeman has always protected his kids from the media eye, there are virtually NO pictures out there of his kid, NONE AT ALL, taken by paps. The kids who were with him at the Nativity premiere were NOT HIS KIDS, they were from the movie.
Then one day a bunch of fans were on set during the Sherlock filming, and these very kids stopped by to say hi to their dad at work. And some fans took pictures. And posted them on the internet. And by doing a single stupid cant-you-just-stop-and-think-for-a-minute they destroyed years or privacy.
I get it you know, these are famous people, and for many fans out there it’s an open door to say “hey, you’re famous, no rules apply anymore”.
How about no.
How about how you would feel if these were your kids, not only posted on the interweb but also confused and mixed up with fandom related stuff, against your will. How about it’s fuckin awkward and disturbing.
How about, if Amanda and Martin were actually getting tired of this they could hunt down the people who did this and sue, because the kids are MINORS and protected by the law.
Just, you know, don’t challenge this, there is nothing to challenge.
